    • Pretty cool seeing all these groups come together to help those out who struggle a bit in life.

      • Always better to have people off the street, but you can't cherry pick the participants and then make broad assumptions about the applicability of this solution (especially the tiny homes aspect) to the homeless population as a whole. Mental illness and drug addiction is the reason the majority of homeless are indeed homeless - as they can't hold jobs, they can't go back to school, and they don't respect property. Great that you've helped a dozen people get back on their feet - and let's hope you can find a dozen more to help in the upcoming year, but covering the city with lots full of tiny homes isn't the real solution.

You "had me" until you said "and. . the don't respect property." Kind of a red flag of where maybe how you really feel? You're right these people need more than just shelter/place to live, but are you willing to pay a little extra in taxes to provide mental health, drug addition treatment, and necessary support to get these "homeless" people back into the mainstream of society, or at least to give them a chance. This is what a "gubmint' is supposed to do - take care of it's people. Calling it socialism, is and ignorant response, because a democracy is a form of socialism.

Dumbest response ever. Your ideas on what "gubmint" is supposed to do are as screwed up as a football bat. I would venture to guess you are unfamiliar with the term "personal responsibility," but then again, as a Democrat, it is not in your vocabulary in the first place.

You're extremely naive, Wah. I guess you're not familiar with the concept of "socialism" in our democratic "government." (I used "gubmint" to hint at the ignorance of your ilk). Examples of "socialism" are public schools (I'm sure a product of a private school?), are fire and police forces, public libraries, public infrastructure (bridges, roads, water and sewer systems, trash removal, public parks, municipal power, social security, medicare, .. . want me go on? "Personal responsibility" is a favorite term from the alt-right, who seldom exercise it themselves (see: Trump). It's a classic fallacious argument of "scapegoating" . . "Description: Unfairly blaming an unpopular person or group of people for a problem or a person or group that is an easy target for such blame." "Personal responsibility" only goes as far as one is "able" (financially, intelligently, opportunity, healthwise) to go. But thanks for your personal attack and "dumb" argument. Fail. :o) https://www.acslaw.org/acsblog/the-problem-with-personal-responsibility/ https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2006/1/8/176868/-

        • " DU wanted the hipster tiny house movement." Did you look at the picture of the houses? Not very trendy, maybe you have a bias against tiny houses?

No he just doesn’t want trailers rebranded as tiny homes to be parked next to his house and filled with homeless

      • I'm glad that this experiment is mostly done with private organizations and private money. That's the way our society should respond to problems like this, not relying on the government to take care of things. Government "programs" generally cost more money, are bloated with bureaucratic inefficiencies, and are far less successful.
